My latest is "Gelnique" ...a jell I rub in to my skin daily. One of our live class members brought an article to class she found in Good Housekeeping last summer describing this new method of administering a medication found in many of the medications out there available in pill form.
The idea is that there would be less side effects because the active ingredient is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the skin instead of being processed by the liver and digestive track.
I've been using Gelnique for 7 days, so I'm sharing my first feedback.
- seems to decrease bladder spasms a little better than the others but this will require a good month or two for a true endorsement...so for now I'll say it works at least as well as all the other meds.
- dry mouth and constipation seem a little better
- I'm not experiencing any skin irritation...mentioned in the possible side effects.
- I have forgotten to apply it at bed time a couple of times... so this will take some extra attention until it becomes habit.
- I've had no urgency this week.
- I'm cautiously optimistic and like the idea of one less pill!
I'll comment again next week.
take care of you

I've been using Gelnique for several weeks. It definitely works as well as any of the oral drugs I've tried in the past. I have no problems with skin irritation. I haven't noticed much change in my side effects except that I have less stomach upset and bloating. I like the idea of taking one less pill so will continue for now.
Have any of you received botox injections for bladder symptoms?
yep...just me again...I have another comment...still liking the gelnique. Also, have discontinued some and added some things in the ever present effort to improve my 'digestive' issues. I stopped taking nexium because I'm concerned it is hindering normal digestion of foods and blocking calcium absorption. I also take extra calcium (citrical) and vitamin D along with more green veggies ... increased my weight bearing exercises (leg presses and walking). Hoping to see improvement in my osteopenia over time or at least no further decline in bone mass in my hips.
I'm also on a new medication to help coordinate the muscles of my digestive track...I'll post again when I can offer some feedback on this one.
I encourage all of you to discuss your digestive, bladder and bowel concerns with your doctors. These symptoms can be life altering and the key to finding meds, therapies and lifestyle changes that help is to talk to all your healthcare providers about these issues.
